Welcome to LuRuArt.com
In my current sculpture, I am pursuing the themes of over abundance and our global reputation as consumers. Our product filled homes and the readily available supply of groceries create a cocoon of standardization that serve to both unite and insulate us at the same time. I am creating sculptures that are growths and accumulations of commodity packaging. Specifically I am utilizing the cast off materials such as Styrofoam egg cartons, meat and produce trays, mesh produce bags and plastic bottle caps. These materials transport, homogenize and protect our modern food supply. I transform these protective waste products into beautiful yet sinister forms such as thistles, snakes and webs. These forms are evocative of protection and survival found in nature. Furthermore, By focusing on the ritualistic process of synthesizing them into cumulative forms, these by-products become a product in their own right.
