Paintings

Shown here are two sets of paintings. The first set is about the disconnect of myth and reality surrounding current events. I am interested in the ease with which people judge situations, especially those with which they have only a limited experience. I am trying to create a symbolist language for the armchair expert. The use of odd juxtapositions and changes in scale and space disorients the familiar media images. Mythical and archetypal as well as personal motifs seep into these modern narratives to let free associations create new warped narratives. The other set of paintings reflects on the nostalgia of mid-century America and its dreams of the exotic. I am appropriating the blissful models of vintage records as characters in a new more personal narrative of paradise. Living in Florida, I find myself intrigued by the concept of escapism and how it intersects with everyday life.
